Mobility Assistance:
Getting out and being active offers substantial physical and mental health benefits to seniors. It can lower blood pressure; reduce heart complications, osteoporosis, and combat depression. Maintaining an active schedule can also help seniors improve their quality of life by controlling weight as well as improving sleep. At Northstar our caregivers assist clients as much as needed getting out and about in an effort to help them stay as active as possible. Our caregivers will even assist clients with light exercise and stretching if they’re able.

Transferring and Positioning:
At Northstar our caregivers are trained to safely move clients in and out of their beds, into chairs or wheel chairs, or onto toilets when needed. Proper transferring and positioning can reduce the risk of injury, bedsores, weakening and stiffening of muscles as well as encourage proper breathing and digestion. It will also help our clients stay as comfortable as possible and that’s the goal!

Grocery Shopping and Errands:
Countless ailments, weakness, and an inability to drive are just a few factors keeping seniors from checking through a daily to-do list. Having some assistance when it comes to grocery shopping and running errands can drastically improve their quality of life. At Northstar our caregivers can shop for groceries at our clients’ preferred stores. They can run errands such as picking up prescriptions, for example, or stopping at the post office. Our clients can choose to stay home or come along for the ride as a way of getting out, staying active, and engaged.

Incidental Transportation:
One key way to combat loneliness and social isolation is simply to get out of the house. Driving isn’t always an option as we age but that doesn’t mean we should be stuck at home. At Northstar our caregivers provide transportation incidental to any other care services. This can include medical appointments, barbershops and beauty salons, shopping; meeting with friends, or wherever else our clients may want to go. It’s completely up to you! Staying active can benefit a seniors’ mind and body, improving quality of life, and is an integral part of what we do.
